Construction worker hit, killed by hit-and-run Lexus in Clear Lake

A 78-year old driver may be facing charges after he fatally struck a construction worker and kept going. The worker was apparently trying to cross Galveston Road between Pineloch Street and City Lake Boulevard when he was struck by the northbound silver Lexus outside an athletic complex. Instead of stopping the elderly driver of the Lexus kept going until he was pulled over by a witness. Police performed sobriety tests on the driver at a nearby gas station and then placed him in custody for further questioning. The name and age of the deceased construction worker has not been released.

Deputy and City inspector hurt by alleged drunk driver in Clear Lake

Channel 13 is reporting that a city inspector and an off-duty HCSO deputy were hospitalized after they were struck by a car at a Clear Lake construction site. The deputy and the worker were standing outside the deputies truck on Seawolf Drive near Bay Area Boulevard around 1:45 a.m. last night when a dark green Chrysler Sebring convertible crashed into the back of a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck, pushing it into the men. While investigators were working the first accident, a second car came through the construction barriers. Drivers of both vehicles were tested for possible intoxication. According to Channel 11’s report, the woman driving the Sebring has an extensive criminal record.

Teen driver killed and passenger hurt in crash on Clear Lake City Blvd

A 19-year old driver was killed early this morning in a crash that police believe resulted from speeds around 90 miles per hour.  The accident happened on Clear Lake City Boulevard near Whitlock at around 2:30 a.m.  Houston Police Department officers arrived on scene to find the driver and a passenger critically hurt: the driver was pronounced dead and the passenger was transported to the emergency room with a broken leg.  While the investigation is ongoing, investigators impression is that the driver was speeding eastbound when the pickup hit a curb and left the roadway, crashing into a group of trees. This is a tragic example of the danger posed by high speed driving: excessive speed can turn what might otherwise have been a survivable accident into a fatality by increasing vehicle damage and the physical forces on the occupants of the vehicle. Channel 13’s report is here.
