Car accident at Reveille and Dixie caused by suspected drunk driver

A driver is suspected of being drunk when he caused a major two car accident early this morning at the intersection of Reveille Street and Dixie Drive in southeast Houston. HPD say a white car, apparently a newer model Chevy Malibu or Impala, was speeding down Reveille at around 80 MPH. A white colored pickup truck was eastbound on Dixie Drive when it was t-boned by the car and pushed through the intersection into a yard, nearly hitting a nearby home. The pickup driver was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extracted by the fire department. Both drivers were taken to the hospital and suffered broken bones in the accident. Investigators say the driver of the white car appeared to be impaired.

One killed in drunk driving accident on Highway 6

One person was killed and several others injured in a rear-end collision caused by a driver authorities say was heavily intoxicated.  A red-colored Dodge Charger with black rims was reportedly speeding down Highway 6 when the Charger rear-ended a red colored pickup truck. The red pickup was pushed forward into the path of an oncoming truck, resulting in a head-on crash between those two vehicles. The driver of the red pickup truck died at the scene. The driver of the other pickup truck was rushed to hospital in serious but stable condition: the driver’s wife and two-year old daughter were also in the truck but reportedly were not injured. After the accident the driver in the Charger fled the scene on foot and was found face down, asleep, in the front yard of a nearby residence at the Copperfield subdivision. Due to the Charger driver’s high level of intoxication, he was taken to a nearby hospital.  The accident happened at Highway 6 near Cherry Creek.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has accepted a charge of intoxication manslaughter against the Charger driver. Court records show that 22-year old Aaron Jacques from Cypress, TX was charged in Harris County on June 16th with one count of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault.

Anthony Garcia allegedly rear ended police car while driving drunk

Police arrested 29-year old Anthony Adam Garcia for allegedly driving drunk and crashing into the back of a HPD patrol car that was conducting a traffic stop (ironically on another suspected drunk driver). The three car accident happened on the I-45 feeder road near Aldine Bender at around 3:00 a.m. on Monday. The stopped police car had its lights on at the time, but Garcia apparently didn’t slow down, and obviously didn’t move over. Garcia’s vehicle flipped over in the  wreck and the impact was enough to push the police car forward into the pickup truck stopped ahead of it, shattering the back window glass of the cruiser. According to Channel 2’s report nobody was injured, including a police dog sitting in the back of the cruiser.

One dead when Ford pickup and Toyota Camry collide on FM 1960 in Atascocita

Around 2:30 a.m. a dark-colored Ford F-series pickup truck was traveling west on FM 1960 in Atascocita, occupied by four male teenagers. As they approached the intersection of Timber Forest a Toyota Camry pulled out of a shopping center parking lot, turning in front of the pickup truck and causing a collision. There were four passengers in the Camry, two male and two female. One of the Camry’s male passengers, identified in a local news report as Colby Fitzgerald, died at the accident scene. The other passengers were transported to area hospitals, two of them by life flight helicopter. Nobody in the pickup truck was injured in the accident according to Channel 11’s report, but the 18-year old driver of the pickup was charged with driving while intoxicated. Despite Colby Fitzgerald’s death in the accident, the pickup driver will probably not be charged with intoxication manslaughter because the accident is not considered to be his fault. Channel 2’s report is here.

Esther Anderson charged with 2-year old’s intoxication assault after car accident

39-year old mother Esther Anderson was arrested and charged with intoxication assault yesterday after a single car accident seriously injured her 2-year old little girl, according to KHOU Channel 11. The wreck happened around 4:00 p.m. as Anderson was driving her 2004 GMC Envoy on Carriage Hills Boulevard north of The Woodlands when she lost control and struck a tree on the passenger side. Sergeant Angela Fountain with the D.P.S. said the toddler was not secured in the vehicle by a car seat, safety belt or any kind of restraint at all. In fact a witness who saw the vehicle prior to the crash said the toddler was standing up near the center console.
DPS officers found an open can of Busch beer in the vehicle and believe it was resting between Anderson’s legs at the time of the crash. Due to the child’s injuries, Anderson was subject to a mandatory blood draw: she was held overnight at the hospital and will be taken to jail to face charges of injury to a child and intoxication assault. Anderson’s husband showed up at the accident scene: he was questioned by deputies who determined he had an outstanding Montgomery County warrant for child abandonment: he was taken to jail.
Photos taken by KHOU show a 12-pack of Busch beer in the vehicle, and also where law enforcement apparently lined up several empty beer cans on the hood of the wrecked SUV. A story on the Montgomery County Police Reporter web site states that, according to Anderson’s husband, she had left earlier than afternoon to get a birthday cake for the couple’s 9-year old. No birthday cake was in the car. Car crashes are the number one killer of children aged 1 to 12-years old in the U.S. You can read on the NHTSA’s web site how to check if your child is in the right car seat.
