Head on car accident on Boudreaux leaves one driver dead

A man was killed and his wife hurt in a head-on car accident last night on Boudreaux close to FM 2920. Investigators with Harris County Sheriff’s Office say a man driving a Jeep Cherokee veered into oncoming traffic and hit a Chrysler 300 sedan head-on. The man driving the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The family of four in the Chrysler 300 were also injured and taken to the hospital. Authorities say the Chrysler driver took evasive action when the Jeep entered his lane by swerving into oncoming traffic where the Jeep should have been, but the Jeep swerved back into its own lane and the vehicles crashed. Channel 11’s coverage. METRO bus hits and kills man on Interstate 45 in Houston

A man died Sunday afternoon on Interstate 45 North near Main Street in Houston when struck by a METRO bus as he stood near his car after a previous accident. METRO officials say that shortly before 1:00 p.m. a car had stopped on the freeway with a flat tire, which caused a four vehicle collision. The METRO bus swerved  to avoid the accident but hit the man who had gotten out of his car. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Four people were transported to St. Joseph’s with non life threatening injuries: including a bus passenger who was treated for cuts to his face. Channel 2’s story is here and tells the facts somewhat differently: that the man’s vehicle stalled in the center lane of traffic and he was hit by the METRO bus and at least four other vehicles as he walked down the freeway. The Chronicle’s story is here.

S 610 Loop wrong way driver killed in collision with 18-wheelers

A 36-year old man driving the wrong way on Houston’s South 610 Loop was killed Saturday morning when a Cadillac Escalade crashed into two 18-wheelers at an estimated 90 miles per hour. The accident was around 3:00 a.m. near Main Street. One of the truck drivers involved said the Escalade first struck her semi, then slammed into a second 18-wheeler before bursting into flames. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, including determining whether the Escalade driver was impaired. Channel 13’s story is here.

SUV rollover on S 610 Loop ejects girl, killing her

A one vehicle accident on the South 610 Loop in Houston has claimed the life of a young girl believed to be around three years old.  An SUV was driving in the westbound lanes of the S. Loop around 2:30 p.m. Friday near Telephone Road when the vehicle entered a grassy median causing the driver to over-correct sending the vehicle into a roll. The little girl was ejected and died at the scene. The man driving was rushed to the hospital. Police believe speeding was a primary cause of the wreck and are checking to see if alcohol was involved. Detectives have yet to determine if the girl was properly restrained in a car seat. Channel 2 report here.

Woman ejected after accident with 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 westbound

An 18-wheeler accident shut down westbound I-10 around 3:40 a.m. this morning after a big rig crashed into a passenger vehicle sending the injured driver to Memorial Hermann in the Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter. Details of the woman’s injuries were not in the Houston Chronicle’s article. All westbound lanes were temporarily closed as workers cleared the accident scene. The cause of the crash is being investigated. What appears to be a reference to the same accident on Channel 11’s web site says a total of three vehicles were involved. A story on Channel 13’s web site (it seems to be about the same accident) says a woman in her 20’s may have made contact with an 18-wheeler, causing her car to go out of control and strike a barrier: the collision with the barrier was apparently severe because even though she was properly belted, the seat belt failed and the woman was ejected. The story says the woman’s injuries include a broken leg and injuries to her chest.

Charles Ray Dailey charged with manslaughter for car accident death of Mark Arnold

Charles Ray Dailey, 44, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with an October 26, 2012 three-vehicle accident that killed Mark Arnold. The wreck happened at the intersection of West Montgomery Road and Wilburforce Street in Houston. In furtherance of their investigation of the accident, HPD obtained a court order to retrieve data from the air bag control module of Dailey’s pickup truck. The data showed Daily was traveling at a staggering 94 MPH (in a 35 MPH zone) two seconds before the impact. Dailey, who was traveling on West Montgomery, crashed into Mark Arnold’s truck as Arnold crossed the intersection, causing Arnold’s truck to collide with another vehicle waiting at the intersection. A KHOU story says that a witness said when Dailey’s truck passed her he was traveling so fast that it made her car shake. After the wreck Dailey was taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital where he consented to a blood draw, the results of which are pending.

Funeral today for victims of Interstate 10 Thanksgiving Day pileup

According to an online obituary, the funeral is to be held today for Mr. Vincent Leggio, a victim of the tragic Thanksgiving Day pileup accident that involved 130 to 140 vehicles and sent between 80 and 90 people to the hospital to be treated for injuries.  Mr. Leggio and his wife Debbie Leggio were killed while traveling on Interstate 10 East toward Beaumont when their Chevrolet Suburban was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler. It is believed fog on the roadway impaired visibility and contributed to some of the collisions that day. Mr. Leggio ran Vinco Electric, Inc. with his son Richard Leggio, and the Leggios were well known and well liked in their Pearland community. The funeral mass will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. The Leggio family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, supporting wounded military veterans: www.support.woundedwarriorproject.org

Suspected drunk driver kills one in accident near Willowbrook Mall

A single vehicle accident early this morning has left one man dead, another injured, and the driver is facing drunk driving charges. Houston police say that the driver of the blue-colored sedan missed a curve striking a fence at the Willowbrook Mall at Tomball Parkway around 3:30 this morning. Three men were in the car, one of the passengers was declared dead at the scene. The second passenger was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. Police detained the driver and planned to charge him with intoxication manslaughter. Officers say the driver refused a field sobriety test but did admit that he had been drinking, so he was transported to the hospital for a mandatory blood draw.
